Workshop Wednesday (Week 5): Joy in Suffering

🎶I’ve got that joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart 🎶 but do we?

As children we sing this song in VBS or in kids church and we mean it with all our hearts. With few things burdening us, joy feels so easy to find and to sing about.  As we mature and age we find that joy isn’t always so natural. We begin to experience things that make life harder and we miss that child like joy we used to have.

How can we have joy when friends betray us, spouses lose jobs, financial ruin hits, or when tragedy becomes part of our story?

As Christians, we know that God is working all things together for the good of those who love Him and that even pain and tragedy can be redeemed by our good and gracious Father.

In 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 we’re reminded that just as God comforts us in our pain, we can then turn around and comfort others going through painful situations. As He comforts us, He prepares us to do the same.

We pray today you can find joy and peace in knowing that our suffering is never for nothing. Give all the pain and hurt to God and watch how He will restore that child like joy again!

Love,

Brittney Dillon
